John Burroughs (April 3, 1837 – March 29, 1921) was an American naturalist and nature essayist, active in the U.S. conservation movement. Film footage of Burroughs accompanying many personalities of the time are featured, including Theodore Roosevelt, Henry Ford (who gave him an automobile, one of the first in the Hudson Valley), Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison. Granddaughter Elizabeth Burroughs Kelley and Harriet Shatraw, discuss Burroughs' life from contrasting points of view and various historians, such as Alf Evers, Alfred H. Marks and author Frank Bergon are also featured.
