This discourse is the continuation of the discourse on Insight into Meditation for a Sadhak.

Om Swami says that if somebody is being taught to sing and is told to sing the same tune every day then everybody will run away. They have to be taught other tunes at some point. Though there are only seven notes in music, the beauty of the different tunes comes from the various combinations of the notes. And that can happen only through practice. The practice of meditation is similar to this. He says, when a seeker has to be taken ahead on the path, then initially they are asked to meditate once for thirty minutes in the morning. Then they are asked to meditate in the afternoon too. After some more time passes, they are asked to meditate in the evening and night also. Next, they are asked to shift the time of meditation by half an hour( not the duration) every now and then so that they get used to meditating at any hour. This way the seeker would have got used to meditating at all times of the day and night, and due to this their mind would always be in a meditative state. Om Swami says that this has been his first-hand experience and he has not read about this is any book. He says, when a seeker wants to progress then they have to make small corrections here and there and these small corrections help them forward on the path of attainment.

The second question addressed here is -if repetition of a mantra is meditation

Om Swami says that repetition of a mantra is not meditation. To be still in awareness and feeling(bhaav) is meditation. He says, that in the Maha mudra that is being spoken about, the mind is able to witness itself, and when that happens its existence is completely dissolved, just like the two sticks when rubbed together causes sparks, which ultimately consumes itself totally. When one starts to ask the question ‘who am I’, they are then able to distance themselves from the mind and witness it. The mind’s tendency is to think always, the brain or intelligence determines the course of action and the ego makes one feel that they can perform the action.
