How the Media Hypes Headlines - I recommend everybody Google "Science for Smart People Tom Naughton." This is an excellent video that explains how the media hypes headlines from observational studies. This is why the media gives us different medical advice every other day. Today eggs are good. Tomorrow eggs are deadly. Today hot dogs are good, and tomorrow they are deadly. Etc... The simple fact to remember is this, observational studies can only show ASSOCIATION and they never show CAUSATION. So you have to depend on your own personal results on the LCHF diet, rather than depending on hype from media outlets.
Take Action On the LCHF Diet - Here are practical actions steps you can take to begin your LCHF diet. First, Cut the Killer Carbs - just cut the bottom right off the food pyramid and dump the 6-11 servings of grains per day. Toss the hamburger buns, tortillas, bread and pasta! Divorce the wheat and sugar. Instead choose more "real food" from the store that does not require a label and a package like meats, cheeses, fish, and produce. Eat more healthy fat from avocado oil, coconut oil, butter, lard, and olive oil. Second, embrace your body. Your body is perfect, right now, just as it is. All you have to do is feed your body food that it understands. Your body simply doesn't understand refined carbohydrates, grains and sugars.
Other than the meditations at the website, you can also reprogram your subconscious mind through conscious repetitive learning tasks. This works, but is somewhat time consuming. I suggest doing the Cut the Killer Carbs meditations as a direct line to reprogram the subconscious. In addition, I recommend you watch the 2013 Cut the Killer Carbs LCHF weight loss presentation at least once. Also listening to that presentation in .MP3 audio 3 times would be useful in really embedding a lot of the key concepts. Read at least one low carb LCHF diet book from the reading list and watch at least 1 recommended video. Each of these activities will build on the rest to make the transition to a low carb lifestyle easy and effortless.
Guest Speaker Mark Hall, MD - After discussions with two other doctors in town, Dr. Mark Hall decided to try a wheat free, gluten free diet (not even a full LCHF diet). The health benefits were unexpected. First Dr. Hall's chronic back pain, which had been present since a car accident 20 year ago vanished. Second, Dr. Hall's high blood pressure which had previously been treated with three medications vanished (and so did the pills). Finally his weight improved, as expected. As a pediatrician, Dr. Hall recommends a wheat-free, gluten free diet to parents of children who are motivated and could benefit from this regimen.
Dietary Supplements - In addition to the LCHF diet, I recommend several dietary supplements for most people. These include probiotics - to replace the good bacteria in our gut that has been killed off by antibiotics, food preservative, toxins, etc... Omega-3 fats (fish oil) to re-balance our omega-3 (anti-inflammatory) to omega-6 (pro-inflammatory) dietary balance. Vitamin D to reach a level in the "high normal" range on testing. Americans are, in general, deficient in vitamin D. And a good quality multivitamin that contains the trace elements. Our soils tend to be depleted of many of the trace elements so a multivitamin is a good supplementary source.
