This engine was built by W H Dorman in Stafford, England and dates from 1934. It uses a "Ricarado" combustion chamber design which gives the distintive sound. It was standby generator for an ICI works in derbyshire for 50 years. We found that the engine was diffiult to start as the weather got colder so we made two holders for the saltpeter soaked blotting paper "glowplugs" This modification which has transformed starting was used on most hand start engines.
