BRIDE AND PREJUDICE

The filming of a Bollywood style re-telling of Pride and Prejudice will begin on July 14th. 'Bride and Prejudice' comes from the team behind the UK and US box office hit 'Bend It Like Beckham' led by director/ producer Gurinder Chadha and producer Deepak Nayar.

The film will blend the best of mainstream Indian cinema, featuring spectacular song and dance sequences in the Bollywood style, with that of the classic Hollywood musical.

Starring in the film is Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai ('Devdas' ) as Lalita, and one of Hollywood's rising stars Martin Henderson ( 'The Ring') as Darcy. The cast of UK, Indian and US talent also includes Daniel Giles, Naveen Andrews, Namrata Shirodkar and Indira Varma.

The film stays faithful to Jane Austen's central story of a mother and father with unmarried daughters, and no dowry to help entice rich, well bred husbands. The Bennets become the Bakshis, who live in small town India, and Darcy is an America, the wealthy son of a hotelier.

Mrs Bakshi ( Nadira Babbar) is the meddlesome mother obsessed with finding eligible bachelors for her four daughters to marry. When a wedding comes to the small town in the Indian countryside, Mrs Bakshi seizes the opportunity to find suitable mates for her daughters. However things do not go as smoothly as she anticipates.

Bride and Prejudice will shoot at Ealing Studios from July 14th, and on location in the UK until September, when the production moves to India where they will shoot in Mumbai and Goa, before travelling to Los Angeles to complete principal photography.
