About the speakers:
Dr. John Coustas
Dr. John Coustas is President and Chief Executive Officer of Danaos Corporation. He has over 30 years of experience in the shipping industry and assumed management of Danaos in 1987 from his father, Dimitris Coustas, who founded Danaos Shipping in 1972.

Dr. Coustas is Vice Chairman of the board of directors of The Swedish Club, a member of the board of directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners and a member of the DNV Council. He holds a degree in Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens as well as a Master’s degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Controls from Imperial College, London.

James Frew
James Frew has been analysing the containership markets since 2007, and since joining MSI in 2010 has taken overall responsibility for MSI’s analysis of the container shipping and offshore oil and gas markets. In addition, James takes a lead role in larger bespoke consultancy and research projects across shipping sectors. He is regularly invited to speak at international conferences, executive and company board meetings, as well as serving as an expert witness in legal disputes and restructurings.

Prior to joining MSI, James worked as a market analyst at Clarksons Research, where he focused on the container sector and was heavily involved in developing their initial offshore analytical services.

James holds an M.Sc. in International Trade, Finance and Development from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, a Graduate Diploma in Economics from Birkbeck College, London and an M.A. in Modern History from the University of Oxford.
