Hull cleaning with a DIY 12v Diving Hookah

Описание к видео Hull cleaning with a DIY 12v Diving Hookah

Inspired by atomvoyager, I built my own version of the diving hookah. Being a paraplegic and not having the leg thrust, it has always been a gargantuan mission to clean the bottom, holding breath and swimming by hand. This has brought all the freedom I ever needed for any maintenance in the water.

With a monthly clean up of the hull in the odd anchorage, I assume the antifouling will last longer, not allowing barnacles to set in and chip off paint. And of course save in costly haul outs. The whole gadget pays for itself on the first clean up (around USD$200).

This one has a cigarette-lighter plug with a 15amp fuse inline. It draws 10amps.

Pump is great. I took it apart carefully, cleaned all parts due to aluminium filings and whatnot during the manufacturing process. The particle filter did reduce the amount of air delivered, but for bottom cleaning, it delivers enough air, at least for me.

For comfort, I added a 360 swivel to the regulator, so the hose follows your motions underwater. Also changed the spring in the regulator, since the pressure is only around 22PSI, makes breathing a lot easier.

Used no form of sealant in the fittings, figured not to risk getting a lung infection. Just got everything super tight.

These are the parts used:

- Resun 907 - 130W (their most powerful pump)

- Food Grade 10mm hose

- Misc. fittings

- Air particle filter

- 360 Swivel (less pressure on jaw)

- 2nd Stage regulator (terrible but tolerable hose odor)
