On the 25th of June, I had the opportunity to attend the @ERC Election Litigation Symposium. The theme “ELECTIONS ON TRIAL: Understanding electoral jurisprudence for the 2030 Harmonized Elections for Improved Participation.

What stood out for me as a public policy professional was the plurality and diversity of political actors that were engaging in a cordial and meaningful manner, the quality of grounded expertise that was within the room, and the concrete and convergence of grounded arguments that were based on Elections court cases.

I have always known that Zimbabwe implements a very narrow and technical interpretation of the law. However, it was far more enlightening to hear the lawyers and politicians in the house concurring on the need for just, transparency, and absolute interpretation and implementation of the Constitution. Key focus areas:

Session 2: Nomination Court and Enhancing Inclusion In Elections presented by Trust Maanda
Session 3 Election Petitions in Zimbabwe The future of electoral petitions in Zimbabwe’s Elections environment presented by Dr Tsabora
Given the important yet technical subjects of the symposium, I decided to record the proceedings and share them with the rest of my community.
