Climate Change and Oregon's Rocky Shores | Dr. Bruce Menge

Intertidal rocky shores are an iconic part of the Oregon coast, whose tidepools provide a glimpse into undersea life. Researchers have been conducting experimental and observational studies of these areas for several decades, and have begun to identify trends that aren’t visible to casual observers. Although rocky shore communities appear stable, underlying dynamics warn of possible impacts of climate change and other environmental threats that affect the resilience of these systems.

This February, we heard from Bruce Menge, Distinguished Professor at OSU and lead researcher of the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO). He pioneered long-term studies within individual sites, and extended those studies to regional and global biogeographical scales. He has published over 180 research papers, many of which are considered foundational in the field of community ecology.
