Target stands cheap and sturdy

With a suggestion from a fellow you tuber, I came up with a modification to stabilize the legs and upright piece:
   • Target stands cheap and sturdy evolution

I used to use a 12 in. long 2x4 nailed to 2 18-20 in. long 2x4s and a 4 in. C clamp to hold a 4 ft. piece of 1x2 or 1x3. I would then staple a piece of cardboard to the upright 1x2 or 1x3 to use as a backing for my targets. I would have to replace my 1x2 or 1x3s often. Adding 3 more clamps would be another $15 if I were to use 2 upright pieces for each stand. Then I thought of using wing nuts, 4 in. long 1/4 in. bolts, washers and another piece of wood to create a clamp on the target stand. You know how some ideas seem to grow? Next came the complete break down and easier storage idea. Using a 6 in. long 1/4 in. bolts, they serve to hold the 2x4 that acts as the clamp to the stabilizing feet as well as hold all 4 pieces of wood together as a stack for storage. I chose to countersink the holes on the bottom piece so that the stands would lie flat on the storage rack. I live in the High Desert of SoCal, the wind blows though here regularly. To avoid having the targets blown over, I use a 76 cent sandbag filled with the dirt/ sand from the location of where we have set up our targets and put it on the base for weight. Drilling the longest holes without a drill press was the most difficult thing in this project, it was easy for me to start straight and end up off my goal. But it's good enough for me! Ream the holes to let the bolts pass easily through. My next video will be on how I make my targets with replaceable 3D heads.
