Tempe PD ID-Refusal Audit: Officer Crowds Camera, Demands ID for Filming in Public

🚨 What happened?
While conducting a First Amendment audit outside Tempe’s Apache Boulevard substation, we filmed from the public sidewalk. An officer stepped within six feet, demanded we identify ourselves or leave—even cited COVID “safety.” We refused to ID, cited our right to film public property, and stood our ground until he backed off.

• “Step back six feet or show ID!” → instant ID refusal & rights reminder.
• Officer claims “private property” & COVID risk—although we’re on public sidewalk.
