Save the Children was at the General Hospital in Patan, Lalitpur, near Kathmandu when the fresh earthquakes occurred today. We were taking stock of lessons learnt and what more could be done to prepare for future disasters. The earthquake struck twice in rapid succession and everyone ran out into the open, and soon the ambulances carrying the injured people started to roll in. This hospital had tended to 1000s of injured in the previous earthquake, when surgeries were being done all over the open areas of the hospital. Save the Children had conducted a mock drill here 6 months earlier, which turned out to be very timely and useful and also additional supplies had been stocked up, which again were very critical in the medical relief work
