Strategies to think mathematically | Mark Gronow | TEDxMacquarieUniversity

Описание к видео Strategies to think mathematically | Mark Gronow | TEDxMacquarieUniversity

Thinking mathematically is an innate ability that is not developed in school. Formal procedures of calculations and memorising facts take over from the natural ideas of quantity, shape and size. Four strategies to think mathematically are presented: connections, patterns, similarities and difference, and generalising and reasoning. Applying these thinking mathematically strategies, instead of calculating and memorising, awakens you the natural beauty of mathematics in our world. After a career of teaching mathematics for over thirty years, Mark Gronow pursued research into the thought processes of mathematics teachers in his PhD Macquarie University. He aims to improve student engagement with mathematics and make it a more attractive choice at higher levels of study. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
