We left Delhi behind on an afternoon IndiGo flight—Terminal 2 humming with its usual chaos, horns blaring even as we boarded. A couple hours later, we landed in Goa. Same country, different planet.

Vasco da Gama greeted us with heavy air and swaying palms, and something we hadn’t felt in days: calm. Even the taxi stand ran on logic. Fixed prices, no shouting, no swarm of men chasing you down—just a board, a number, and a guy who meant business.

The drive was slow, quiet. Goa reveals itself in layers—faded signs, salt in the air, the occasional cow minding its own on the roadside. We checked into HQ Hotel, a straightforward room above a quiet street. Clean sheets, working fan, nothing fancy—but a good place to disappear for a night or two.

Then came the food.

We found Jai Hind, a proper no-nonsense Goan joint. Tile floors, fluorescent lights, and a menu that didn’t care if you were passing through or local. I ordered Chicken Cafreal—a green masala bomb of garlic, coriander, and vinegar. Paige went for the prawn thali—rice, dal, curry, chutney, a little bit of everything on a steel tray that somehow made perfect sense.

We sat for a while, soaking it in. A small TV crackled in the corner with IPL commentary, the room buzzing with slow conversation and the clink of steel plates. Cold drinks, full stomachs, and a quiet satisfaction.

Goa isn’t trying to impress you. It just is. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
