Muhammad Ali Jauhar University is a private university established in 2006 by the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, India, recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC).[1] Its Chancellor is Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. It was granted university status in 2012 by the Uttar Pradesh government.[2] It was granted minority status by National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) on 28 May 2013.[3]


The state's longest flyover of nearly 4.7 km will be constructed in Rampur to provide easy access to cabinet minister Azam Khan's dream project — Jauhar University. Already known as the university flyover, it will originate near Ekta Trisection in Rampur and end at the gate of Jauhar University.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav allocated Rs 150 crore for this flyover in the 2013-14 budget. He also allocated Rs 16.75 crore for another flyover, also in Rampur, from New Tehsil Building to Planetarium .

Both flyovers will also provide easy approach to Jauhar University from Azam's residence in Rampur.

The university flyover will take off from Ekta Trisection, which is barely 1.5 km from where the planetarium flyover will end, and land in front of Jauhar University's gate towards Kosi river.

The process to build the university flyover has already started with the survey being complete. According to the survey, 112 acres of land will be acquired for constructing this flyover, which will be 10 metres wide. The survey report has been handed over to the Rampur District Magistrate N K S Chauhan. The land acquisition process will start after the survey. The flyovers will be constructed by the U P State Bridge Corporation.

Jauhar University is the dream project of cabinet minister Azam Khan. At present, it is functioning as a private university with Azam as its chancellor and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav as its visitor. Akhilesh Yadav had sanctioned Rs 10 crore in his maiden budget and another Rs 1,000 in 2013-14 budget to open the account head. Jauhar University spans nearly 300 acres of land in Seenghan Kheda village of Swar teshil in Rampur district. A proposal had already been sent to the government to include this village in Sadar tehsil.
