Описание к видео Chicago Late 1930s in color [60fps, Remastered] w/Sound Design

I colorized, restored, and created the sound design for this rare video of Chicago in the late 1930s. The footage captures the city’s industrial and coastal atmosphere along some of its major streets and landmarks — South Shore Dr., Jackson Park, Lake Shore Dr., South Chicago Ave, 79th St., and 75th St. It offers a vivid glimpse into everyday life during that era, when the movement of cars, factories, and people reflected the pulse of a growing metropolis.

0:06. The film begins heading east on 67th St. towards the intersection with South Shore Dr. and Lake Shore Dr., turning left/north through Jackson Park.

4:21 The camera vehicle heads northwest on South Chicago Ave. starting in the mid 7300 block.

5:18 The car has just turned right off the 7500 block of S. Chicago Ave. onto S. Kimbark Ave., which then turns north.
5:47 Car arrives at E. 75th St. and proceeds to turn right/east on 75th and ending just past the store and the lady in the white dress on the southeast corner of E. 75th St. and Kenwood.
6:15-End Additional footage traveling north on Lake Shore Dr. ( Thanks to @jaysverrisson1536 for this valuable information! )

Pare Lorentz (1905–1992) was an American filmmaker, writer, and producer, widely regarded as a pioneer of social and environmental documentary cinema. A key figure of the New Deal era, he worked for the U.S. Film Service, where he directed landmark films such as The Plow That Broke the Plains (1936) and The River (1938). Combining poetic narration, orchestral music, and striking imagery, his documentaries exposed the consequences of land overuse and highlighted government efforts to restore ecological and economic balance. Lorentz is often seen as a forerunner of the modern socially conscious documentary.

Special thanks to Scott (@JaySverisson) for his kind assistance in identifying and verifying this footage.
