Impressions of Ipanema (live set excerpt)

Описание к видео Impressions of Ipanema (live set excerpt)

The song "Girl from Ipanema" by Antonio Carlos Jobim is often listed among the most recorded songs in history. It's been done countless times by innumerable musicians in different styles and genres, and has sometimes even turned up as "elevator music." This is partly because it's a beautiful song, the melody and harmony in particular. For this performance, given the song being so well-known, I wanted to "play around" with the melody and harmony (as opposed to "play" the song, as in "cover" it), so these are my "Impressions of Ipanema." It was performed live in January 2024 as part of a set on the theme "Echoes of Jobim." The guitar is a 2002 Taylor 712CE with a Cedar top and Rosewood body, fitted with a passive K&K Pure Mini pickup and run through a number of effector pedals, most prominently a T-Rex Binson EchoRec, and then directly into the PA system of the venue.
