Heroes are the unique playable characters in Heroes of the Storm. A player chooses a single Hero, each having different abilities and Talents. Heroes can fight other Heroes and be slain, respawning in the Hall of Storms after death. They can also collect experience, increases Heroes' power and granting them access to new Talents.

The Heroes are characters from the Blizzard Entertainment franchise universes of Diablo, Overwatch, Starcraft, Warcraft, and Blizzard Classic games (The Lost Vikings) and are divided into four different roles: Assassin, Specialist, Support, and Warrior. There are currently 70 Heroes in the game, with Kel'Thuzad being the most recent addition. Additionally, most Heroes can choose from multiple Mounts (some having special mounts) and have multiple Skins available for purchase in-game, with some forming a shared theme with other character Skins.

Every Hero starts with four Abilities, consisting of only three Basic Abilities and a Trait. All of these skills are available to use at the start of the game and can be customized through the Talents. At level 10, Heroes also receive a Heroic Ability chosen by the player, unique to the Hero. At level 20, Heroes can choose to upgrade their chosen Heroic Ability or pick from a few powerful other options. Abilities scale in effectiveness progressively as Heroes Level up by gaining experience. Abilities do not scale individually except through certain Talents.

Anduin Wrynn is the son of Varian Wrynn and heir to the throne of Stormwind. Anduin was for a time following his father's disappearance the king of Stormwind, but following Lady Prestor's unmasking and Varian's return, the latter took up the mantle of king again. His relationship with his father has always been somewhat strained: although he loves and respects his father, he prefers a more peaceful approach to foreign relations, and does not agree with the king's more aggressive tactics. However as time wore on, he began to rub off on his father, who became more appreciative of diplomacy and peaceful tactics. He is also close with Jaina Proudmore and views her as a family member, affectionately calling her "aunt", and was dismayed by her change in personality and world-view as a result of Garrosh Hellscream's actions. He was subsequently relieved when she finally returned to her senses during the Blood War.

In his teenager years, Anduin took up training in the ways of the Light and became a priest, and soon after became a pupil of the Prophet Velen, leader of the draenei. Anduin becomes the King of Stormwind after his father dies heroically against Gul'dan and the Burning Legion, during the Battle for Broken Shore. After taking the throne, Genn Greymane became his second-in-command and military advisor.

Anduin Abilities:

D - Leap of Faith
Cooldown: 80 seconds
Faith instantly pulls an allied Hero to Anduin's location, granting them Unstoppable while they travel.

Q - Flash Heal
25 Mana Cooldown: 4 seconds
Casts for 0.75 seconds to heal an allied Hero for 260.

W - Divine Star
50 Mana Cooldown: 9 seconds
Send light that deals 140 damage to enemies and then returns to Anduin, healing allied Heroes for 130 in a wider path. Healing increases by 25% per enemy Hero hit.

E - Chastise
40 Mana Cooldown: 10 seconds
Shove a swell of light foward, dealing 145 damage to the first enemy Hero hit and Rooting them for 1.25 seconds.

R - Holy Word: Salvation
70 Mana Cooldown: 80 seconds
After 0.5 seconds, Channel to invoke the Light for 3 seconds. While nearby, allied Heroes heal for up to 25% of their max Health and are Protected.

R - Lightbomb
70 Mana Cooldown: 60 seconds
Imbue an allied Hero with the Light. After 1.5 seconds, it explodes, dealing 150 damage to enemies and Stunning them for 1.25 seconds.
The target gains a Shield that absorbs 165 damage per enemy Hero hit. Lasts for 5 seconds.
