Kerala Temple Special Dense Garland using Ixora and Tulasi

A demonstration of the making of a dense flower mala (unda mala in Malayalam) using a twist and pull method (pirikkal). Watch only if you are interested in garland-making and only if have the patience to watch a 12-min long video!
You need some basic garland making skills before you can try this technique. I have grown up watching skills of my mother, aunts, uncles, and cousins who inspired me with their skill, patience, and dedication. Some of my cousins are highly skilled in making this type of garlands but in my generation the interest toward this is dwindling. These kind of garlands are commonly made in Kerala temples. Right from making the thread for the garland, procuring the flowers, and then making the mala, the whole activity is very meditative and soothing (for those who have interest and patience).
