Murph took a break during the Nashville stop to talk with PG’s John Bohlinger. Murph, a wildly creative musician, is not much of a gearhead, but techs Jamie Hicks and Simon Fuller fill in the nerdy details on the rig that drives the band’s Brit-flavored garage rock.

Murph keeps his guitar options simple so he can focus on the show, rather than buttons, knobs, and switches. This paisley-colored Fender Japan 1969 Telecaster reissue used to belong to Murph’s dad. The tone knob and pickup selector have been removed and the neck has been replaced with a Mexican-made Fender neck due to road abuse.

His backup is a 2000 Fender American Standard Stratocaster with the tone pot removed. All of Murphy’s guitars are strung up with Ernie Ball Cobalt .011s.
