Going OFFBEAT In Meghalaya !
It's a pity that for most of us, a trip to Meghalaya means Shillong & Cherrapunji. But Meghalaya is a haven for the nature addicts and has got loads of places that are full of surprises.
So what are these hidden treasures ? Read on to which are all these unexplored places you can visit:

MAPLE PINE FARMS
Just at an hour's drive from Shillong lies a tranquil country home with green roofs and windmills. Run by Meghalaya born Canadian James and his Khasi wife Valerina, Maple Pine is somewhere between a campsite, a bnb and en English style rustic lodge
Every bit of the farm is independently built by this couple with a vision to preserve the sanctity of the place .It runs on only Solar and Wind Energy and the setting of the farm is right out of dreams, wooden cabins in a valley, windmills and a stream that charmingly surrounds it.

MAWPHANLUR
Meghalaya is best covered on a roadtrip. As you hit the countryside you'll get to see the place in all its glory. All along the journey, the hills, the winding roads, the streams, the farms will keep presenting themselves, as if to out do each other’s magnificence.
So cruising through these mesmeresing roads you can reach Mawphanlur - a picturesque hamlet located in the West Khasi Hills, around 70 odd kms from Shillong. Its known for its unending series of lakes and rolling hillocks stretching away into the distant horizon.
The only place you can stay in Mawphanlur is called Traveller’s Nest . Staying there is an unforgettable experience, as this countryside wonderland will be a pure assault to your senses.

MAWLYNGBNA
Along with nature, Meghalaya is an ultimate adventure destination for water sports lovers. And in the recent times a village named Mawlyngbna is being promoted as the nature's amusement park.
During monsoons when the rains make Meghalaya lush green, It is quite an experience to try river canyoning. And If you don't know what 'river canyoning' means, phir to ye aur bhi bada reason hai to visit this place.

KONGTHONG
Around 60 km from Meghalaya's capital Shillong, lies the Whistling Village of India - called Kongthong !
While it looks like any other tiny hamlet, But what makes it unique is that each of the nearly 700 villagers has a unique identity in the form of a caller tune. Over here every child is given a unique tune by his/her mother at the time of birth, as an expression of the maternal love. And in the local language it's called Jingroi Yaaube 'Jingrwai Lawbei'

NONGRIAT
Deep in Meghalaya’s forests grow its most famous attractions. I am talking about The living root bridges of Nongriat. These man made natural wonders are probably the most unique feat of primitive bio-engineering.
While a lot of people make a daytrip to this place, we decided to reach here in the evening, stay overnight and explore the double decker bridge early in the morning. Trust me The first view of the root bridge surrounded by this mystic aura will mesmerize you beyond imagination
Sitting there alone soaking in the beauty of this outstanding masterpiece, made me think that, if nurtured properly, a beautiful harmony between man and nature can sustain for centuries.

My tryst with Meghalaya has not been short of a love affair.
I have chased her clouds and rains, been smitten with her different looks and moods, have been both thrilled and overwhelmed by her, but never ever fallen out of love with her.
