One morning on the continent of Shusteru, a male Shadow Prowler looks over the valley after a long night of hunting. He sees the sun rise over the mountains and takes a moment to appreciate the serenity before going to sleep in his cave. In his cave, a Utilipede crawls around for a morning stroll. And further away, a Masked Greyrob flies over to enter the Prowler’s domain, but it’s not trespassing. These two have known each other for years, aiding each other in hunting prey under countless moons, and tonight was no different. Now they slumber until the evening, when the hunt shall resume again.

Shadow Prowlers are terrestrial predators that often live in caves. They are nocturnal, meaning that they are most active during the night. During this time, they hunt medium to large prey, ambushing them from the shadows. The Shadow Prowlers’ power is to become one with the shadows (hence the name) and camouflage under the foliage they hide under. They can also run at great speeds and even glide should the terrain make it necessary. They are mostly solitary, only tolerating one another when they need to mate or raise young. That being said, there are rare instances of pack hunting behavior, which is a nightmare for any animal that encounters them.

Masked Greyrobs are part of a group of small Xenogriffs that specialize in symbiotic relationships, and this species in particular has a strong attachment to the Shadow Prowler. They will usually scout areas for potential targets before returning to their respective Prowler. When the hunt begins and the Prowler is chasing its prey, the Greyrob will help slow the target down by firing double-bladed shuriken-like feathers from its leg wings, allowing the Prowler to catch up and more easily take the animal down. And thus, the two carnivores have a meal.

Utilipedes are an omnivorous species of Synthopod that can be found just about anywhere across Excelsia. When threatened, they can fire a variety of defensive projectiles from their backs and scurry away while the aggressor is disoriented. They will sometimes form close relations with larger creatures to act as a protective defense against predators or prey, and in return, they get a fair share of their hosts’ meal.
