Day-10:
The Joy of God’s Mercy – Saint Luke 1:78-79 – “Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

In the song of Zechariah, the phrase “dayspring from on high” refers to Christ, the dawn of salvation, who illuminates the darkness of sin and death with His radiant light. This light is not distant or fleeting but close and transformative, guiding us into the way of peace. The Nativity Fast is a season of preparation for this divine visitation. It is a time to recognize the areas of our lives still sitting in darkness and to invite the dayspring of Christ into those places. The mercy of God is not earned; it is freely given, but it requires our response.

Saint Cyril of Alexandria writes, “In Christ, the light of God’s mercy rises, dispelling the shadow of sin and leading humanity into the eternal peace of His kingdom. Let us walk in this light, that we may become children of the day.” Spend time in silent prayer, asking Christ to shine His light into the dark or hidden corners of our lives.

Lord God, as we journey through this Nativity Fast, help us to open our hearts to Your light. Teach us to walk in mercy, offering forgiveness and love to those around us. Amen.
