Scientists at Harvard have reduced and reversed DNA damage due to aging in mice. This means they made a part of the mice’s biology of aging stop!

The scientists at Harvard had a great question: If one protein is responsible for blocking another protein’s job of fixing damaged DNA, then maybe stopping the blocking protein will allow the second protein to continue fixing damaged DNA allowing us to, well, reverse aging.

DNA gets damaged through time, leading cell death, cell mutation, and organ failure: getting old.

A protein called NAD, is everywhere in your body when you’re young and less available when you’re old.

The DNA fixer protein works well when you’re young, and slows down greatly as you age.

As we get older, NAD is harder and harder to find in our bodies.

The blocker protein can then block the DNA fixer protein from fixing you as you get old.

So scientist at Harvard increased the amount of NAD in old mice, and boom! NAD blocked the blocker protein from allowing the DNA fixer protein to do its job.

They essentially made older mice have the biology of a young mouse!

They even applied radiation to the mice with increased NAD and found that they survived radiation compared to the mice that weren’t treated.

This means that not only could we reverse aging in humans, but we could save people from the terrible side effects of radiation cancer treatment.

Now we just need to figure out where to put all these 300 year old humans.
