The first route visual of the 386 is finally here! 🥳🥳🥳 (How did none of you film it when it got tendered to Go Ahead? 😂)
Anyways, route 386 is a route stretching from Woolwich Arsenal to Blackheath Village via Plumstead Common, Woolwich Common, Kidbrooke, Blackheath (bizarrely, this route passes through Blackheath twice), Maze Hill and Greenwich. It is operated by Go Ahead London Central at their Morden Wharf Garage (MG).
In terms of history, route 386 started at Selkent and running between Eltham and Greenwich Hospital. It was allocated with Optare Metro riders. In November 1991, new B11D buses were introduced onto the route. On May 1993, the route was withdrawn between Eltham and Kidbrooke and extended from there to Plumstead Garage. It was also extended from Greenwich Hospital to Cutty Sark. Later that year, it had a Monday - Friday cut back to Plumstead, and from 1994, all services were cut back to Woolwich, apart from garage runs. It was also at this time that the route was fully allocated with B11D buses from Mercedes. By this time, the route only ran from Mondays - Saturdays, but by 2001, the route finally had a Sunday Service, and was diverted to serve Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to cover the cut back route 122. During this time, the route was then given it's new Plaxton Pointers. In 2003, the terminus was extended to Beresford Street (just east of Woolwich Town Centre), but the route still started from Woolwich Town Centre. Also, the garage runs eventually became dead runs. In 2007, the route was extended from Cutty Sark to Blackheath Village. From 2008, the route had new Enviro 200s but was still at Selkent, in Plumstead. In 2010, the route was diverted to serve Sandy Hill Road instead of Plumstead Common Road. In March 2018, the route transferred to Catford Garage. In June 2018, the route's contract was awarded to Go Ahead London from Morden Wharf Garage, using Enviro 200s leased off 299, which recently went to Sullivan Buses.
Personally, I think route 386 was better off with Stagecoach. When it went to Go-Ahead London, it still had the same diesel buses, which made the withdrawal of the Plaxton Pointers (or indeed, any bus withdrawn in London) pointless. However, I like the areas it serves, and the uniqueness of serving it's terminal area twice. Blackheath is also a nice place to go to, and the route is very hilly.
