Thomas Franco is a senior, Cognitive Science major and Business Management minor from San Angelo, TX. A pre-med student at CWRU who has interests in health and public policy, Thomas has spent time interning at a charitable clinic in Lakewood, OH and on Capitol Hill through the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Thomas most recently began his senior Capstone interning with the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission, mobilizing young Latinos across the state this election. He also works on campus at the National Initiative on Mixed-Income Communities as a Research Assistant.

SPARC [conversations] presents the first ever SPARC [scholarships] event. Students of Case Western Reserve University compete against each other by speaking about important topics to win award money. This year’s topic is the experience of minorities in STEM fields.

Each preliminary round, of which there are three, has a focus within the general topic. In this first round, students were asked to speak about the culture of STEM. This event was sponsored by Hyland Software, and was held on November 12, 2016 in the Tinkham Veale University Center on the Case Western Reserve University campus in Cleveland, OH.
