Описание к видео Adding The Blog Archive and Posts To The Navigation Menu Widget

EverWeb's Blogging Feature makes Blogging Easy and Fun!
https://everwebapp.com

You can easily add a blog to EverWeb’s Navigation menu widget

First select the blog page then check the ‘include page in navigation menu’ box in the Page Settings tab.

If you check the same box for the Archive page, this will appear as a sub menu under the Blog menu name.

There are a couple of things to note here…

First is that the blog structure is unique as it cannot be changed. By default, you cannot have both blog and archive pages in a submenu in the navigation at the same time as the archive page is always a child page of the blog page, and the navigation menu widget only supports one level of child menu.

The second thing to note is that you are not able to directly add posts to the navigation menu. This is because the posts page is a special page made up of one or more blog posts. By default, then, you cannot add specific posts to your navigation.

We can, however, do both these things by using page redirection and some very simple code…

In my navigation menu example, I have a top level menu heading “Info’ in which I want to have my blog main and archive pages as child menu options.

As you can see, the blog is located in the ‘Info’ directory but only the blog page can be seen as a submenu item.

We can add the Archive page as a menu option as well using the following steps:

First we need to create a new page which will be used to redirect us to the page we really want to get to.

Click on the Info directory page in the Web Page List.

Use the Add page button to add a new blank page. Note that the page is added inside the Info directory.

Name the page e.g. archive redirect. Using either the File Name option or changing the page name in the Web page list.

Check that the ‘Include page in navigation menu’ is checked.

Change the Navigation menu display name to ‘Archive’.

Next go to the Header/Footer code section. Open the section and in the Head Code box enter the code shown on screen.

You can also find this code at the following URL:

https://www.quackit.com/html/codes/me...

Replace the URL shown in the code with the URL to your own blog archive page. The best way to find your own URL is to go to the archive page on your published site and copy the URL from your browser search bar.

The last step is to drag and drop the ‘archive redirect’ page to the location in the Info directory where you want it displayed, e.g. after the blog.

Now publish your website. When you click on the Info menu heading, you will see two options: one for your blog page and one for your archive page.

Using the same principle we can add a blog post as a sub menu option…

Create a redirect page for the post that you want to include in the navigation, or duplicate the archive redirect page.

Change the file name and navigation menu display name fields as appropriate. Remember to keep the navigation menu display name short so it fits easily on the navigation.

In the Header/Footer Code section, replace the URL with that of the blog post.

The best way to do this is to go to the post itself on the published site and copy the URL from your browser search bar.

Once you have replaced the URL, publish your site and test that the link to the post is working correctly.
