Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish, and Western astrology are two distinct systems of astrology that have been practiced for centuries. The primary difference between the two lies in their approaches to calculating planetary positions and interpreting their influences. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual positions of the stars and constellations, whereas Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is based on the seasons and the Sun's position. Additionally, Vedic astrology places greater emphasis on the Moon's nodes, or Rahu and Ketu, and uses a more complex system of planetary periods, known as dashas, to predict life events. In contrast, Western astrology focuses more on the Sun's sign and uses a simpler system of planetary transits to make predictions. Overall, while both systems share some similarities, Vedic astrology is generally considered more complex and nuanced, offering a deeper understanding of an individual's spiritual and karmic path.
