String Quartet No. 1 "How to Remember Seeds" (2017)

Han Lash's String Quartet No. 1 "How to Remember Seeds" commissioned by the Schneider Concerts chamber music series, a program of The New School's Mannes School of Music, in celebration of the series' 60th Anniversary, funded by the Alexander Schneider Foundation with additional support from the Adele and John Gray Endowment Fund.

It is used by arrangement with Schott Helicon Music Corporation, New York, NY, publisher and copyright owner.

The Abeo Quartet, formed at Juilliard in 2018, is the inaugural Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the University of Delaware under the mentorship of the Calidore String Quartet. Abeo's accomplishments include being among ten quartets invited to participate in the 14th Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2022. The quartet was also a First Prize and Audience Favorite Prize winner in the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition for Emerging Professional Ensembles and Silver Medal winner of the Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition, both in 2022. The quartet was a finalist in the 2021 Young Concert Artists International Competition and the silver medal winner of the 2019 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Abeo welcomed new members violinist Rebecca Benjamin and cellist Brian Gadbow in the spring of 2021 and has been featured in the Core Memory Music series and the Schneider Concert Series, including a performance with the Calidore String Quartet in November 2022.

Hailed by the New York Times as “striking and resourceful . . . handsomely brooding,” Lash’s music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center, the Chicago Art Institute, Tanglewood Music Center, the Aspen Music Festival and School, The Chelsea Art Museum, and on the American Opera Project’s stage.
