Foliage season is always the grandest time to visit a railroad in New England, extended service makes reservations months in advance well worth it. Conway Scenic Railroad’s most renown service no matter the conditions is the Notch Train (now referred to by its historic name: the Mountaineer), but for parents with younger children, the 5 and a half hour long trip might be a bit much, however CSRX still has solutions for those seeking a shorter ride. The valley trains are a great alternative with ride time being an hour to and hour and 45 minutes depending on which route you take. With Halloween just around the corner though, Conway runs a special day of excursions, catering to the fall spirit; the Pumpkin Patch Express tan several times over the course of the weekend. Running between North Conway and Conway, the hour long train ride is perfect for younger children, however the ride is only part of the event, at Conway Depot, passengers may select from a variety of pumpkins, and partake in several outdoor events, including a barrel train ride, and a small car and construction equipment display.

The weekend’s power changed each day, normal Notch locomotives, yellowbird’s 252 and 216 ran excursions Saturday, while 4266 and 573 tackled the Mountain Division with the 470 Railroad Club excursion. The motive power assignments were effectively swapped between the trains for Sunday, the yellowbirds ran the Mountain Division as they always do, while 4266 and 573 handle the Pumpkin Patch Express on the Conway Branch. In hindsight after capturing this footage, it essentially became a showcase of the major three bridges found between Conway and North Conway.
