This story began even before Anna was born when it became clear that it would not be easy.
Anna is eleven now. She has Down syndrome, and over these years she has lived through more than many adults ever do. Diagnoses will not be listed here, and there will be no explanation of how one is “supposed” to live with them. Because life is lived as it comes. With hospitals. With long waiting. With the word “remission” after cancer - a word to hold on to. Some people stay close. Some do not. And with time, one learns to live with that too.
Anna practices figure skating. She is preparing for her first competitions. On the ice she is confident and calm. Sometimes it feels as though keeping her balance there is easier for her than in everyday life.
This video leads to a conversation with her mother.
Without grand words or heroism. And to a girl who simply lives and in that alone, there is already great strength.
