The Narrows in Zion National Park - Stand Up Paddleboarding and Packrafting

Описание к видео The Narrows in Zion National Park - Stand Up Paddleboarding and Packrafting

Stand Up Paddleboarding and packrafting the Narrows in Zion National Park from the top down in the Spring of 2024 at around 250cfs. This was either the first SUP descent of the Narrows , or one of few ever completed. If anyone else has done this it will be cool to know how that went for others. This is a serious trip due to many factors that can sneak up on you and that combined with the commitment factor can create trouble. This trip is not advised on SUP unless an EXPERT downriver rider with class three read and run skills. The group of four kayakers that also ran this behind us, ended up in big trouble. One made it out the same day as planned, but of the other three all lost their boats and became trapped in the Narrows. One of those three swam out the next day, and the other two one of which had a foot entrapment and was rescued by his brother ended up with a broken ankle. Those two were rescued by helicopter the next day. This needs to be respected as a serious wilderness trip and paddlers need to respect the NPS SAR by being prepared for this mission. For those prepared it is such a nice journey and it would be sad if it ever became a closed option due to too many incidents. Myself and my friend had minimal issues, I ran everything standing and in the end took two controlled falls that were easily recovered from. Proper scouting to avoid strainers was key.
