When your PlayStation 5 has a black screen, changing the resolution in Safe Mode is a great way to fix it. To change the resolution and fix the black screen, follow these steps:

Step 1: Access Safe Mode

Turn off your PS5 completely. Do not use Rest Mode. If you can't see the screen, press and hold the power button on the console until you hear two beeps. The first beep will sound when you first press the button, and the second one will sound about seven seconds later.

The console should now be in Safe Mode. You will need to use a USB cable to connect your controller, as wireless functionality is disabled in Safe Mode.

Step 2: Change Video Output

Once in the Safe Mode menu, you'll see a list of options. Using the D-pad and the 'X' button on your controller, select "2. Change Video Output".

Then, select "Change Resolution". Your PS5 will restart and a screen will appear with different resolution options.
