For this project I decided to make a shorts pattern from scratch (my 1st time actually) so that there was a distinct front & back (with the back being longer since your bottom is bigger than your front) but to make it easier you can just fold the shorts completely in half to make the pattern which is how I usually make shorts. (Let me know if you want a quick video on how to make shorts the easier way)

I decided against folding over raw edges & hemming along the neckline & arm holes but you can sew those areas if you please.

I didn't have to hem the thigh holes since I cut the shorts out from the very bottom of the shirt which is already hemmed.

I used a T-Shirt since thats what I had at the moment but I would recommend using spandex/swimsuit material for an exercise outfit. It's much more comfortable & not slightly see through like the shirt is.

Right sides: The sides of the material that will be showing when you wear the garment. An easy way to know the right side of a T-shirt after cutting (for the bottoms at least) is the hem. On one side you will see two straight stitches (which indicates the right side) & on the other you will see a bunch of stitches going over & through one another (which indicates the wrong side/inside of the garment).

All materials purchased from Jo-Ann!
