Meet Madame Red-Wing. And here’s Mr. Red Wing Blackbird. My hand has become a valet stand for birds. Why? Because I’m handing out plain, shelled sunflower seeds—bird caviar. None of that salted, nonsense. This ain’t a ballpark, folks.
Oh, and before you keyboard detectives start on me—click, selfie mode. See? Real hand. Real bird. Not a mannequin limb from some Halloween store. I’ve already got conspiracy theorists accusing me of running a puppet show
Anyways, I’m trying to lug this bird the better part of a mile to catch up with my friend ERIC who has been trying to befriend a bird for the past 15 minutes. I’m basically running my own AVIAN TINDER to try to hook him up, and be his literal wingman.
I feel like a bird butler or something.
Here at Piper’s Spit It’s free to enter. You can come here and check this place out. Also, you’re allowed to feed the birds, here’s a snapshot of the sign. But because it’s free, you can fully expect that every retiree with a bag of rice is out here throwing carbs like it’s Mardi Gras for wildlife. But remember, if you want to be a rockstar, you need to use seeds. And definitely don’t give bread, as it can be bad for birds.

There’s my buddy Eric is over by the water, hunched like a gargoyle, trying to high five some ducks…but they would rather mug him for his lunch money than take food politely.
I’m trying to provide a smooth hand off, but the bird is clinging to me like I’m the last lifeboat leaving the Titanic.
This bird is missing out, Eric is totally cooler than I am.
But all was not lost, a few minutes later I helped Eric to double-fisting birds like he’s the ornithological Hulk Hogan. A minute later he’s got three lined up like they’re waiting at a Starbucks drive-thru.
