Описание к видео Science Museum Virtual Reality Viewer | Review

Basic Script:
Hey YouTube, hope you’re all doing okay. Today we are looking at the Virtual Reality Viewer from the Science Museum which is certified to work with Google Cardboard.
For those of you who haven’t tried virtual reality (VR) before, Google Cardboard takes your mobile phone and cheaply turns it into a virtual reality headset and the results are quite impressive. VR makes you feel as if you are in a 3D space, allowing you to look around and interact with a virtual environment. In the box all we get is the viewer itself and a user manual telling you a little bit about how it works. Assembling the headset is really easy by simply opening up the phone holder and pulling the front piece forward. It all sticks together well using velcro which also allows it to be folded back down to its original size for easy storage and transport.
Getting your phone set-up to work with google cardboard is really easy, all you need is an android device running 4.1 or later or an iPhone running iOS 8 or later. You’re also going to need to make sure that your phone has a gyroscope built in.
Next you’re going to need to download the Google Cardboard app which is available for free on both iOS and android. You will then be prompted to scan the QR code on the headset which will ensure that you get the best experience possible. Now place your phone inside the virtual reality viewer, ensuring to Line up the white line in the centre of the screen and you’re ready to go. Simply look through the two lenses and feel like you’re being transported to another world.
This works by splitting the image on your screen so that each of your eyes are looking at slightly different images through fish-eye like lenses. This gives the 3 dimensions that help sell the effect. The gyroscope is then used to detect the placement of the phone, changing the image as you look around.
The google cardboard app comes with a couple of virtual reality demos to get you started however there are an extremely wide variety of games and experiences available. I think the most impressive feature is being able to easily interact with the worlds by looking at what you want to select and then pressing the small silver button on top of the headset. This simple mechanism touches the screen of your phone and allows you to select and perform a variety of different functions. It is also easy to go back at any point by simply tilting your head 90 degrees to the side.
The possibilities of Virtual Reality are endless and you really need to give it a go yourself to get the full experience. I let a number of people have a go and they all really enjoyed it. My favourite things I have tried so far have been using Google Earth to explore cities, rollercoaster simulators and watching some 360 degree youtube videos which you can easily do by tapping the cardboard icon in any 360 degree youtube video.
The image quality isn’t superb however text is still just about legible. I did find that using a phone with a higher pixel density such as the Nexus 6P did slightly improve the quality over my daily driver, the Moto G4.
Google Cardboard is not perfect and is never going to rival dedicated virtual reality headsets however it is great for anyone wanting to try out this cool and quickly developing market, using only their smartphone and some cardboard. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next video.
