We visited Walkers Leicester Manufacturing and got some great aerial shots with our drone

Walkers is a British snack food manufacturer best known for its range of crisps. Founded in 1948 by Henry Walker in Leicester. The company began as a butcher’s shop that pivoted to crisp production due to meat rationing after World War II. Walkers quickly gained popularity for its hand-cooked crisps and eventually became a household name across the UK. In 1989, Walkers was acquired by PepsiCo, which expanded its range and introduced new technologies and flavours. The brand remains dominant in the UK crisp market, known for classic flavours like Ready Salted, Cheese & Onion, and Salt & Vinegar, as well as limited editions and promotional tie-ins.

Walkers’ main manufacturing site is located in Leicester, where it all began. This facility is one of the largest crisp production plants in the world, producing millions of packets every day. The Leicester factory is a major local employer and a technological leader in the snack food industry, with advanced automated systems for slicing, frying, flavouring, and packaging crisps. Walkers sources a significant portion of its potatoes from British farms, some even local to Leicestershire. Sustainability initiatives, such as reducing packaging and cutting carbon emissions, are key focuses of the site, reflecting both PepsiCo’s global goals and Walkers’ role as a flagship UK brand.
