Dorothy Kilgallen’s Wayward Typewriter (2020). Dorothy Kilgallen was born in 1913 in the sad end of a Graff Zeppelin. Her father James, the husband of her mother, recognized her youthful capacity for a quick turn of phrase. He handed the prodigious five-year-old a Remington-Rand typewriter and said: “One day you will perform on a broadcast television show sponsored by the manufacturer of this device, but that is not relevant at the moment. Please go and interview Bruno Richard Hauptmann as he is the suspect in the abduction of an aviator’s child.” The seven year old Dorothy decided that to fully understand the Hauptmann situation she must gain more first-hand experience of mechanized flight. She sat down and composed a memoir entitled Girl Around the World to be released in 1936. This laid out her detailed plan to fly around the world in competition with reporters Leo Kieran and H R Ekins. The notoriety brought by this act endeared her to suspected murderers throughout the 20th century and enabled her to interview not only the suspect in the Lindbergh abduction and murder, but convicted wife-murderer Sam Sheppard and convicted murderer murderer Jack Ruby. It is hypothesized by some that the gathering of information in this interview sealed her fate as Ruby had elaborated the involvement of the La Cosa-Nostra in the assassination of the 35th president and thus motivated organized crime commandants to hire a pop-music vocalist to sneak into the third floor of Dorothy’s East 86th Street townhome, lace her beverages with Seconal and Tuinal and tuck her corpse into bed, but only after re-dressing her and locating and removing all her notes from the Jack Ruby interview. Further: in 1962 Dorothy was commissioned by the General Electric Company to paint The Blue Fireman as part of a Celebrity Art Print series. Bill Bixby created the Slow Return. Technical notes: Video recorded to a Panasonic HC-X1. Footage shuffled with Abobe Premiere Pro. Music track recorded and mixed on a Zoom R16 multi-track recorder. Piano and cymbal sounds trigged by drum pads on a Yamaha DTXpress 3 drum kit. Cello sounds from an E-max 2 Sampler played from a Akai Timbre Wolf via midi.
