We spent the past 7+ months traveling ✈️ to 20 countries on a mid tier budget and here’s how much our world 🌏 travel sabbatical cost.

The second biggest expense behind lodging was food 🍜, and the cheapest and most expensive countries might surprise you! Below are our top 3 most and least expensive countries for food and the daily cost for 2 people:

The 3 most expensive 💰 countries were:
1️⃣ Qatar (Doha): $103/day
Basically NYC pricing! Cafes especially were very expensive for drinks and dessert but essential for the AC

2️⃣ Japan (across 23 cities): $98/day
There was so much delicious food we basically ate at least 8x a day between meals and snacks

3️⃣ Sweden (Malmo, Stockholm, Gothenburg): $87/day
Some parts were NY pricing, and we ate Asian food 50%+ of the time because we needed a break from dry kanelbullars

The 3 cheapest 🤑 countries were:
1️⃣ Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang): $40/night
Not only lodging but food was so affordable we should retire here

2️⃣ Croatia (Zagreb): $49/night
We were actively trying to save money and not really into the food

3️⃣ Portugal (Lisbon, Palmela): $53/night
More affordable than the housing cost!
