The Industrial Technology Research Institute held its annual ITRI Laureates Award Ceremony on Tuesday, to highlight six of its top tech innovations. The winners included research on computer memory chips, immune therapies, and plastics, as well as industry innovations for 5G cellular technology and artificial intelligence. The projects reflect the areas the ITRI plans to focus on in the coming year.

5G small cells are 5G cell towers. Compared to 4G cell towers, they can provide 10 times’ higher bandwidth.

The ITRI Laureates Award Ceremony highlighted six top innovations. Research awards went to smart internet key memory chips, “iKNOBEADS” immunotherapy particles, and recyclable thermosetting resin. Industry awards went to a new thermoplastic elastomer, a “white-label” 5G small cell solution, and a tool for detecting bugs in AI operations. All the technologies were made with the market in mind.

The awards today are divided into outstanding research and contributions to industry. Of course many of the latter technologies are already in use in industry.

ITRI says it has four areas of focus for development over the next period: smart living, smart health care, sustainable environment and smart communications tech. It will be guided by the needs of the market but seek to stay ahead of the innovation curve.
