"They were involved with the radical militant organisation JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh) and they were also involved in this incident (the killing of Kunio Hoshi). In their confessional statement before the court they have described how they planned it and how they executed the killing. But for the sake of the investigation, as some of the other accused are yet to be arrested and some evidence is yet to be collected, we'll not disclose the details."

STORYLINE:
A suspected member of a banned Islamist militant group confessed to fatally shooting a Japanese agriculture researcher in northern Bangladesh in October, police said on Tuesday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Ranpur district, Humayun Kabir, said Masud Rana told a magistrate on Monday that he and his accomplices killed Kunio Hoshi.
Rana is believed to be a member of the militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.
It was not made clear when he was arrested.
Kabir said six people including Rana have been detained for alleged involvement in the killing.
Kabir said he would not disclose further details for the sake of the investigation, as police were still hunting for evidence and other suspects.
Three assailants on a motorbike took part in the 3 October killing in Ranpur district, less than a week after an Italian aid worker was shot dead in the capital, Dhaka.
