Second Twin is a modular synthesizer I created, melding together sound design principles used by acts Aphex Twin (for tonal quality) and Second Woman (for rhythmic sequencing).

The general idea is to allow degrees of tempo synchronization of beats generated between overtone and undertone ratios of dual oscillators mapped to the same underlying pitch. This results in a harmonically rich monophonic synthesizer of unique polyrhythms, those that can be free of tempo but also automated gradually (or discretely) into straight time as well.

There are also jitter and Euclidean rotation functions that allow for further randomization while maintaining this hybrid free/synchronized approach to tempo.

As I continue testing and refining this synthesizer, if demand exists, I will release the patch for public consumption.

As for the quick demo, there are three sonic elements: (1) a pair of Second Twin synthesizers, automated in a digital audio workstation to play with its parameters, (2) a self-designed kick closely related in design to the Second Twin synthesizer, and (3) a MUSIO organ patch to create an electroacoustic ambience.

Mixing and mastering was done in-house with a combination of automated and human techniques.
