The T-90 is a third-generation Russian battle tank that entered service in 1993. The tank is a modern variation of the T-72B and incorporates many features found on the T-80U. Originally called the T-72BU, but later renamed to T-90, it is the most advanced tank in service with Russian Ground Forces and the Naval Infantry. The T-90 uses a 125 mm 2A46 smoothbore main gun, the 1A45T fire-control system, an uprated engine, and thermal sights. Standard protective measures include a blend of steel, composite armour, smoke dischargers, Kontakt-5 explosive-reactive armour, laser warning receivers, Nakidka camouflage and the Shtorainfrared ATGM jamming system. The EMT-7 electromagnetic pulse (EMP) creator has been used in testing but not fitted to T-90s in active service. It was designed and built by Uralvagonzavod, in Nizhny Tagil, Russia. Since 2011, the Russian armed forces have ceased any further orders for the T-90, and are instead anticipating the development of the T-14 Armata. In 2015, it produced a pilot batch of T-14 tanks of 20. In 2016 it began mass production of T-14 that is not going to cut, even in times of crisis. At the same time started the procedure of acceptance of the military and address the shortcomings. The Russian army plans to acquire 2,300 T-14s in the period 2015-2020.

Создан в конце 1980-х — начале 1990-х годов как глубокая модернизация танка Т-72Б под названием «Т-72Б усовершенствованный», однако в 1992 году был принят на вооружение уже под индексом Т-90. После смерти Владимира Ивановича Поткина, главного конструктора танка, решением правительства Российской Федерации Т-90 было присвоено имя «Владимир». В период с 2001 по 2010 годы Т-90 стал самым продаваемым на мировом рынке новым ОБТ. В 2010 году закупочная стоимость Т-90 по контрактам на поставку Вооружённым Силам Российской Федерации составляла 70 млн рублей. По состоянию на 2011 год стоимость нового Т-90 заметно повысилась и составила 118 млн рублей. С конца 2011 года закупка танков Т-90 для ВС России была прекращена в связи с принятием на вооружение нового ОБТ Т-14 Армата. В 2015 году изготовлена опытно-промышленная партия Т-14 из 20 танков. В 2016 году началось серийное производство Т-14, которое не планируется сокращать даже в условиях кризиса. Одновременно начата процедура военной приемки и устранения недостатков.
