সেন্ট মার্টিনে যেতে হলে পর্যটকদের জন্য নিবন্ধন ও ফি বাধ্যতামূলক করা হচ্ছে। বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন ও পর্যটন মন্ত্রণালয় এই নিয়ম বাস্তবায়ন করছে। কক্সবাজার উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষের উদ্যোগে সকালে সচিবালয়ে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। বঙ্গোপসাগরের ৮ কিমি আয়তনের প্রবাল দ্বীপ সেন্ট মার্টিনে প্রতিবছর লক্ষাধিক পর্যটক বেড়াতে যান, যা দ্বীপটির ধারণ ক্ষমতার চেয়ে বেশি। পরিবেশ ও বন মন্ত্রণালয় দ্বীপের পরিবেশ রক্ষায় একটি গাইডলাইন তৈরি করেছে, যেখানে পর্যটকদের নিবন্ধন এবং ফি প্রদানের প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথা বলা হয়েছে। তবে, এই সিদ্ধান্তটি এখনো চূড়ান্ত হয়নি

গাইডলাইনে জেলা প্রশাসনকে দ্বীপটির ভ্রমণ সংক্রান্ত নিবন্ধন ও ফি ব্যবস্থাপনার দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি, দ্বীপে প্লাস্টিক নিষিদ্ধ করার কথাও উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে। বিশ্ব পর্যটন দিবস উপলক্ষে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে সচিব জানান, দেশের জিডিপির ৩.০২ শতাংশ পর্যটন শিল্প থেকে আসে এবং ধীরগতিতে হলেও এই শিল্পে অগ্রগতি হচ্ছে। পর্যটকদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার জন্য সংশ্লিষ্টদের নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে
