Our little township in Western North Carolina got hit with the arctic blast and boy was it cold! The outside temps weren’t so bad considering we’re from Canada; it was the fact that we weathered it while in this old farmhouse that was the real shock.

Our house is very poorly insulated and we can’t run our propane or kerosene heaters overnight, so waking up in the morning, our house was FREEZING! Even the dog’s water bowl partially froze!

My husband did end up fixing our pipes. He had to take a smaller heater and stuff it right under the house to finally get the water to start moving. Unfortunately, a couple of our pipes did crack, and since we live rurally, we had to do our own fixes. Mark taught himself plumbing over the span of a couple of days and fixed everything up really nicely!

Mark did note that under the house, our pipes were completely exposed, which is why they froze over midday. We just started renos a few days ago and have started talking to our contractor about everything we can do to help insulate the house. The foundation work alone is going to make a HUGE difference. I am so excited to take you guys along on that journey!
