Throughout History there have been many public executions performed by different Kings and Queens. Henry VIII during his reign during the Tudor period would hang, draw and quarter a huge number to put others off committing serious crimes. But the final woman to be publicly executed in the Kingdom of Saxony in Germany was Grete Beier, a woman who was a schemer and a terrible criminal. She did not want to marry her fiancee, so she began to plot to kill him despite the fact she could have very easily have left him. Grete poisoned her fiancee the night before the wedding, and then shot him in the mouth. She tried to cover the murder up, staging that her fiancee had taken his own life.

However she had also committed a number of other crimes including theft and embezzlement, and with this suspicion fell upon her. She even stole from her family, but she was arrested and was then placed on trial. Grete Beier despite being just 22 was sentenced to death for the murder of her fiancee, and she was not given a reprieve by the King. She was taken from her prison cell into a courtyard where she was executed by the guillotine, and she was the final woman publicly guillotined in Saxony.
