Implementing talent analytics can seem daunting -- but there are ways to make it less intimidating. Lydia Wu, head of talent analytics at Panasonic Corporation of North America, gives advice on talent analytics strategy and recommends HR software. Wu first stresses the importance of people and relationships -- and numbers don’t have anything to do with it. She recommends providing business leaders with demographics to help them understand who the employees are and their level of engagement, and then layers on the financial data after.

Wu also says to implement talent analytics, you don’t need expensive business intelligence or HR software tools right off the bat -- Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are enough to prove concepts before investing in specialized software.

Assembling a talent analytics team and drawing benefits from it is not a linear path, according to Wu. She encourages organizations to be exploratory and look for a team with the “hustle factor.”
