Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz of overlooking the genocide in Gaza at a press conference held in Ankara.

Erdogan highlighted the 60,000 children, women and elderly killed in Israel's bombardment and blockade of the strip, emphasising that while Hamas "doesn't have bombs [or] nuclear weapons... Israel has all these weapons, and Israel has used them."

The two leaders have come together to discuss trade and defence cooperation, however Gaza appears to be a sticking-point in the diplomatic relations between the countries. Erdogan has long been vocal on recognising the genocide in Gaza, whereas Merz has overseen a crackdown on pro-Palestinian protest.
