“Possibility of another Balakot airstrike…” Former Pakistan envoy asks government to be vigilant

Ahead of the General elections in India, Prime Minister Modi’s popularity is the talk of the town in Pakistan. Former Pakistani Envoys seemed confident of PM Modi’s victory in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election. Meanwhile, they urged the Pakistan Govt to remain vigilant as India might carry out another Balakot-like airstrike. Former Pakistani Envoy Zamir Akram made these remarks during a discussion with his former colleague Abdul Basit. He said, “I am not against dialogue with India. But Pakistan must get involved in it if Pakistan gets any benefit from it. I think that Prime Minister Modi will win the elections again. He wins votes by making anti-Pakistan and Pakistan bashing rhetoric. He will do the same. There is a possibility of another Balakot (airstrike). We should realistically consider that they can do something like this. So, we should not lower our guard. We should be vigilant. There is no benefit in having a dialogue till Mr. Modi is there in power.” Zamir also talked about Kashmir and said that no country supports Pakistan in a way they support Palestine. “In case of Kashmir, no country is as vocal as Pakistan. In support of Palestine, there are many countries. Arab countries, Muslim countries, and even non-Arab and non-Muslim countries also support them. But unfortunately, this is not the case with Kashmir because no one wants to deteriorate relations with India,” he said.
