How To Turn / Cut A Rotor on a Brake Lathe Machine

This video will show you the basics on how to turn and cut a brake rotor on a brake lathe machine. My local parts retailer turns rotors for $10 a rotor. Two Sundays in a row, he had no one available who knew how to turn rotors, didn't have time to turn them himself and the last person who attempted to turn the pair I brought in ruined them. I asked him to let me use the machine since I had experience turning rotors (but on a different machine). He said okay but if I messed up, my tough luck. Took a few minutes to figure out how to use this particular machine (Bosch) and then got to work.

Why turn rotors?

Smoother Braking Action
Less heat generated when compared to warped rotors
Increased life of the brake pads
Eliminates brake pulsation (steering wheel and seat vibration)

Always check that the thickness of the rotors are within specifications before turning them. Replace the rotors if below specs.
